Cycle Ride through Spain for Charity – Santander to Marbella in 9 days

Junio 7th, 2010 No Comments »

A group of twelve cyclist rode from Santander to Marbella across the country in 9 days last week. The group was riding for a a good cause and raised funds for the Dove House charity – a hospice that takes care of elderly people. The fit group of twelve bikers enjoyed rides of up to 100 miles a day, for nine days in a row on a very rugged and mountainous terrain, spending up to 10 hours a day in the saddle which resulted to be a true test for some participants mental and physical limits. All the riders still managed to complete the ride that finished in style with a welcome party at the Manolo Santana Raquets Club in Marbella.

John Thompson and Steve Bampton who both represented Team Xtreme can be seen in the following picture with high spirits after their arrival in Marbella.

Downhill Mountain Bike Trip from Ronda to Marbella – past the Castaño Santo Tree

Mayo 28th, 2010 5 Comments »

Yesterday we had the pleasure of taking a four hour downhill mountain bike tour from the Sierra de Ronda area all the way down to Marbella – La Quinta. The route is primarily ( 80% ) downhill and leads through the beautiful and untouched landscape of the Sierra de la Nieves Natural Park where we saw only one building and ran into two pedestrians during the whole time. The highlight of the day was the visit to the 800-1000 year old Castaño Santo Tree that has a perimeter of 15m and is 22m tall (see pictures below) and legends tell that the king Fernando the Catholic celebrated a thanksgiving mass under the shadow of this impressive tree in 1501. We were also really impressed by the surrounding Alcornoque tree forrest which is used for cork on wine bottles all over the world.
