MARBELLA. A Marbella martial artist is celebrating after regaining his world title at the Abu Dhabi Jiu Jitsu World Championships last month.

Ex pat Babak Alimoradian beat six different international fighters during the four day competition to win the Purple Belt category.

Now the 38-year-old former col- lege wrestler with Iranian and Ger- man roots is training for next year’s competition after setting his sights on the Brown Belt category.

Babak, who owns the Marbella based company Team Xtreme, told SUR in English: “This gold medal is the result of a lot of training and dedication as well as the support from my team, training partners and coaches.

“It felt really good to win at that level and beat everyone.”

The dad of two, who also got 4th place in the Open Weight category, spent up to four hours a day train- ing for the competition at the Dy- namic Gym in Marbella.

Coached by black belt Carlos Varona, he competed in the cate- gory up to 82 kg, Purple Belt Mas- ter division.

He entered the competition as one of the favourites after recently winning the European Open title in Lisbon and previously winning the World Title in 2011.

In the final Babak dominated his American opponent Dwight Brooks

with a final score of 20-0, with sev- eral take downs and guard passes during the six minute match.

Babak, who is now the reining European and World Champion in the Purple Belt Masters category, now hopes to achieve similar results in the Brown Belt Masters category next year.

The Abu Dhabi Pro World Jiu Jitsu Championships, hosted by the crown prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan,

unites the world’s best grapplers and boasts total price money of around 800,000 euros.

One of the biggest competitions in the sport of Jiu-Jitsu, it attracts more than 500 fighters every year who have to battle their way through 14 qualifying competitions around the world to take part.

The United Arab Emirates has been heavily investing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu making it mandatory for all students to practise this sport.

During the open european championships in brazilian jiu jitsu organized by the IBJJF in Lisabon ( January 24-27 , 2013) Babak Alimoradian won the title in the middle weight category ( purple belt – senior 1). During his four matches Babak scored 51 points and did not give away any… and submitted two of his opponents by ezequiel choke from the mount.

Check out the pics of my friend Tete who is paraplegic and skydived last week in Seville. Tete has very little movement in his lower extremities and still had the guts to jump from a a plane at 15,000 ft and go into a one minute freefall. He was so amazed by the experience that he wants to come back to the dropzone asap for another jump.

Last year we has a visit from international super model and tv host Francisco Randez hosting the canadion tv show Viva España on Canal Evasion. Francisco came to visit to Marbella to get to know the city and also trained brasilian jiu jitsu and went canyoning with us.
