If you want to learn how to skydive and jump out of the plane by yourself you need to take an AFF course ( Accelerated Free Fall course) that is a quick and efficient method of learning to skydive. You are expected to jump solo after only 8 jumps after progressing continuously on your first seven jumps getting challenged a little further every time. In addition you need to take a full day theory class that prepares you for the jump, canopy handling, any malfunctions that could happen and gives you an overview of the equipment that is used.
This video gives you a very good overview of the seven AFF levels that you need to pass in order to jump solo:
In order to learn how to skydive in Spain you need to take an AFF 1-7 course which stands for Accelerated Free Fall Course Level 1-7. The method has been developed in the USA and is very popular and enables you to make great advances in a short time period.
During the first jump you are accompanied by two certified instructors who accompany you maintaining their hands on your harness and body during freefall. Gradually you keep challenging yourself more at every jump till at the last level you will be jumping by yourself with full responsibility for the maneuver. Usually students manage to graduate from level 7 after around 8 jumps and are required to perform 10 consolidation jumps in order to be certified to jump individually.
It should give you peace of mind that our main guide Alejandro Macias is one of the top professionals when it comes to mountain guides and beside being the andalucian champion in Canyoning also imparts courses to teach mountain guides the proper techniques of how to safely guide a group of clients down a riverbed. Although the sport is fairly safe it is very important to always be accompanied by a certified guide that oversees the group and is experienced in handling the ropes that are very necessary for the abseiling techniques.
Last weekend Alejandro and Tito imparted the two day canyoning course at the TECO School in Mijas with students that are being educated to be mountain guides. Some of the subjects covered were:
The proper use of the materials
Techniques to tie ropes
How to behave in the riverbed in hazard situations with clients
Practical training in the Rio Verde river in real life situations
