Yesterday we did a mountain bike tour from Olvera to Puerto Serrano with the students from the TECO School in Mijas where mountain guides receive their education. The tour is along an unfinished railtrack and has a total of 36,5 km along the beautiful scenery of the andalucian mountainside. Another characteristic of the tour is that the track is very flat and can also easily be done with families. Along the track you will have no motorized vehicles and will pass through 30 tunnels ranging from 42 m up to 990m in length.

Here are a few pictures of the tour and the beautiful scenery:

On Friday we experienced a great team building event – downhill biking from Ronda to Marbella – with a dutch engineering Team that had gathered from several countries to share a few days of adventure and fun in Marbella. The route that goes through the untouched and picturesque area of the Sierra de las Nieves is approximately 38 km long of which 80 % are downhill making it ideal for people that do not have an exceptional fitness level, even though the tour takes approximately 4 hours. One of the highlights of the tour is the stop at the “Castaño Santo” tree that is estimated to have an approximate age of 800 years… on the pictures you can see that it took 11 dutch guys to surround the tree.

Yesterday we explored a route that will be offered in our program very soon… a downhill mountain bike tour from Ronda to Marbella through the Sierra de la Nieves Natural Park. The tour took us through the untouched and tranquil area of Sierra de la Nieves for an approximate length of 40km, 80 % of which being downhill. One of the main attraction on the way is the ” holy tree” of Castaño Santo with an estimated age of more than 800 years and a trunk size the size larger than a mini-bus. Our mountain guides made sure we found the right track and also overcame some obstacles such as fixing some flat tires.

Downhill Mountain Bike Trip from Ronda to Marbella – past the Castaño Santo Tree

Mayo 28th, 2010 5 Comments »

Yesterday we had the pleasure of taking a four hour downhill mountain bike tour from the Sierra de Ronda area all the way down to Marbella – La Quinta. The route is primarily ( 80% ) downhill and leads through the beautiful and untouched landscape of the Sierra de la Nieves Natural Park where we saw only one building and ran into two pedestrians during the whole time. The highlight of the day was the visit to the 800-1000 year old Castaño Santo Tree that has a perimeter of 15m and is 22m tall (see pictures below) and legends tell that the king Fernando the Catholic celebrated a thanksgiving mass under the shadow of this impressive tree in 1501. We were also really impressed by the surrounding Alcornoque tree forrest which is used for cork on wine bottles all over the world.

Here are a few pictures of the trip:
